London is a vibrant, cosmopolitan and multicultural city with vast numbers of restaurants, theatres, shops, cinemas and museums, all within easy reach. The buzz of the city and the tranquillity of its many open spaces make London unique for both tourists and locals alike. Over 300 languages are spoken in London, contributing to the city’s own fascinating culture and making it a fantastic place to travel and experience culture from all over the world.

London’s ever-changing and diverse culture means there is always something new to see or do in London. The city retains many historical features including the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Palace, to name just a few.

London has the greatest concentration of major attractions in Britain. There are 238 attractions which are free to enter. Tate Modern, the London Eye and Madame Tussauds are just a few of the many attractions on offer.

You’ll never get tired of shopping in London. The city is home to over 30,000 shops and with a burgeoning reputation in the fashion world, you won’t be disappointed. For a wealth of high street shops, visit Regent Street and Oxford Street, the latter being the home of the large department store, Selfridges. For more upmarket and exclusive shops, New Bond Street is the place to go, even if it’s just from some window shopping. If you make a trip to Knightsbridge, you will find the infamous Harrods store.

As with most places in Britain, football is the most popular sport in London. The city is home to several of England’s leading football clubs and boasts 13 professional teams, more than any other city in the world. London also has four rugby union teams and is home to two test cricket grounds, Lords and the Oval, as well as Wimbledon (The All England Lawn, Tennis and Croquet Club). London has also been chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games, making it the first city in the world to host the Summer Olympics three times.

London is home to over 16% of the UK’s restaurants and serves food from 70 different countries across the globe. You can choose from smart restaurants, informal gastro pubs, superb delis and buzzing cafes, there really is something to suit all tastes.

London’s music scene is truly spectacular. It has 400 live music venues, catering for everything from rock and hip-hop to opera and jazz, and all over the city you’ll find famous musical landmarks and reminders of some of the capital’s biggest music stars. Summer is a great time for live music in London- you can enjoy everything from rock and pop festivals to the world’s largest classical music festival- the Proms.
