Business Integration and Improvement Manager

Research Support Office

Permanent / Full Time
Closing Date:  23.59 hours BST on Sunday 18 April 2021

Reference:  RSO-0068-21

Applications are invited for the role of Business Integration and Improvement Manager, to work in the Research Support Office and with the Deputy Chief Operating Officer at The Royal Veterinary College (RVC). This new position will facilitate continuous improvement in the management of Research and Knowledge Exchange activities, by maximizing efficiencies between the various business processes and IT systems that produce business information, data and strategic intelligence for the College in these areas.

Key responsibilities will include providing support for the further roll-out and development of the Worktribe research management system, the implementation of which began in 2020. The post-holder will work to integrate Worktribe with the College's new Workload Allocation Management System and other systems, such as Identity and Access Management. Together, these systems will assist the Research Support Office in reconciling academic time on grants and contracts, and so provide the necessary audit trail for funders. The emphasis will be on integration leading to business improvement, driven by improved (more timely, more relevant) management information.

Alongside this work, the appointee will support the Deputy COO with formulating the new RVC Data Strategy. This Strategy will allow the College to utilise large data-sets, drawn from various management information systems, to help inform its future business processes and strategic direction. The Data Strategy will cover all College activities, not simply Research and Knowledge Exchange -- albeit it is anticipated that these two areas will be amongst the greatest beneficiaries of a more co-ordinated approach.

This exciting position will suit someone with an analytical eye, who is a boundary-spanner rather than an 'IT Expert'; and who has a firm grasp of the potential for different business systems to work together, synergistically, in driving business improvement for the College. The role will sit at the centre of the RVC's plans to modernise its approach to managing Research and Knowledge Exchange over the next five years, and is therefore business-critical. As such, the post-holder will be encouraged and supported to develop further their skills in business integration and improvement, such that they can feed this learning back into their day-to-day work.

If you are interested in finding out more about the post, please contact Dr Ray Kent, Director of Research Administration ( ). Thank you.
