Are you a highly motivated, organised and experienced Haematology/Cytology technician looking for a new challenge?

Are you looking to develop your skills in a busy veterinary diagnostic laboratory providing routine and specialist lab services?

Do have previous experience of performing manual and automated analysis of veterinary haematology/cytology samples?

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, organised, experienced Haematology and Cytology technician to work within our busy Diagnostic Laboratories providing routine and specialist laboratory services. You will work as part of a team and be competent in a wide range of haematological and cytological techniques, both automated and manual, with the ability to perform differentials and other analysis unsupervised. Computer literacy is essential as the position involves the processing of samples from a wide variety of animals, large and small (domestic, farm and exotic), recording, entering (and reporting) results on a LIMS system.

Experience of working in a diagnostic haematology and cytology laboratory is essential with familiarity in veterinary haematology or other laboratory disciplines desirable. You should have a science degree or equivalent, be flexible in your approach and work to a high standard. You must possess the ability to work unsupervised and a willingness to learn new techniques.

We are also offering an opportunity for less experienced candidates to work as a Diagnostic Haematology Technician (Grade 4, 26,196 to 29,612 pa inclusive), with a view to progress to the substantive post with appropriate training and when the necessary level of experience has been attained. You will assist and undertake training to provide a high standard haematology and cytology service. You should have previous experience of working in a haematology laboratory with an understanding of haematology techniques, familiarity with cytology preparations and the willingness to undertake training.

All candidates should possess strong communication and team-working skills, the ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail and work in an efficient and organised manner. Computer literacy is essential, as well as the ability to follow Health and Safety and Standard Operating Procedures and an expectation to participate daily in sample reception duties.
