We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an MRC-funded project investigating the mechanisms controlling antimicrobial resistance gene transfer in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a major human and animal pathogen.

The successful candidate will work with Professor Jodi Lindsay at Royal Veterinary College, Dr Adam Witney at City St George’s, and Dr Alex McCarthy at Imperial College London, on the MRC-funded project:

This interdisciplinary project combines molecular microbiology, bacterial genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and tissue culture approaches to understand the mechanisms controlling horizontal gene transfer in MRSA. Our multi-disciplinary hospital accepts a range of referral and first opinion cases. In addition to state-of-the-art facilities, we are the only recognised Level 1 Trauma Centre in Europe with extensive in-house laboratory capabilities and the support of our on-site transfusion service allowing us to provide the highest level of care to critically ill patients. As part of our Emergency and Critical Care team you will be working alongside our experienced specialised RVNs, Patient Care Assistants, students, residents, clinicians and interns to triage and care for patients during their stay in the department.

Your role will evolve, however you can expect to be triaging and supporting with the stabilisation of patients on arrival to the hospital, in addition to monitoring patients for minor procedures and caring for inpatients seen through our first opinion service.

Working hours will be 21 hours every weekend, Friday-Sunday working twilight shifts: 18:00-02:00. There may be room for some flexibility on hours to be discussed at interview.
